Update on Diamond

Amy Gowertz - Tuesday, September 25, 2018
One photo is Diamond cuddled up on my colourful blanket, at my feet, on Canada Day.  The other photo is Diamond hogging my bed - which she is exceptionally good at doing every night.  It's taken a little while for her to realize that she's here to stay, but now she's a cuddly little girl, and is sometimes even a "Velcro" dog.  Whomever had her before she was found on the streets trained her exceptionally well.  She's got a lot of terrier in her, so she's programmed to run after cats, squirrels, etc., but I have a story to tell....We were both outside (no fence, not leashed) as I took some garbage to the townhouse complex bin.  She will not leave the yard, and just waits for me.  I was about halfway back when I saw a jackrabbit out of the corner of my eye - and Diamond saw it at the same time.  I hollered "Diamond, No. Leave it!" - and she stood still and just watched the rabbit run away!!  How's that for awesome training?  So, whomever decided not to adopt her because she was 12 years old, and left her so we could adopt her - we thank you from the bottom of our hearts, because she's an absolute treasure.

Roxanne now Sierra and June Bug now Miss Lucy

Hi Everyone!
We just wanted to say that these two girls are doing great!

Sierra is 6 yrs old & tiny so she isn’t going to like the cold at all so I’ve bought her a good fleece wardrobe :)
She is a sweet girl who runs the show with my cats & other two dogs.

Miss Lucy is 2 yrs old & is very timid.
We took a slow casual approach with her regarding stairs ..... she figured them out in 3 days!!
She is scared to be picked up but within a few days you could pick her up with just a little squealing. :)
She was scared of the leash & going for a walk but is starting to enjoy them & even leads the pack.
She also has no interest in our cats but enjoys the company of me & my husband & her fur buddies.
She is starting to play with toys & enjoys belly rubs & ear scratches.

Saving these dogs makes us feel so good!

We adopted Milo in June having gone through Little Mutts 5 years ago and adopting (Chula) who is now Piper.  Milo was originally quite timid and seemed especially skittish around men.  He has turned into a sweet, loving little guy.  He loves Piper and they play and sleep together.  Milo loves his walks and is great at the off leash park.........boy can he run!  Milo has adjusted well and he has a happy home with people who love and spoil him.  Glad I check the Little Mutts website every now and again or we would have missed him.

Since joining our family, Gus has become quite the guy! He loves to spend lots of time on our warm cozy bed but once he is up, he spends his days at the flower shop with Fergie (who is our other rescue) delivers flowers when he can, and loves to go for long walks when the days are nice. He prances along like a little prince! He is not very impressed with the snow, but he is a good sport! He loves to run full speed around the house and is happy that Fergie has become his new playmate! He is a loving little guy and although he was all white when he came to us, he is now getting some brown spots coming through giving him lots of character. We are very happy to have him in the family and know he will bring much love.

Dora the Explorer

Amy Gowertz - Monday, September 24, 2018
Little Dora is doing amazing. She is one spoiled dog. She gets to sleep with me ….. she goes on 2 to 3 long walks a day. She has quite a large vocabulary of commands. She knows the routine and is pad trained along with outdoor trained. She loves a wet food and a dry food we found she finally will gobble up. After lots of treats bought she does not like, we finally found one from Costco she can’t wait to gobble up. She loves to either sit on my knee or right beside me. She has been to the groomer 3 times in 6 months and loves to be pretty. We have had to go to the vet a couple of times because of ear infection and a bacteria that had to be treated. She is fine and doing well. She gets to fly with me and has had 4 flights in 6 months. She loves the attention she gets in the airport and on the plane. She gets to sit on my knee as she is an emotional support animal. We picked each other. She loves children and especially my grandchildren. She is the perfect watch dog and will let me know when someone is at the door. Dora can swim and loved it in Winnipeg on the beaches. She makes she I get to bed at a reasonable hour or she will let me know its time to come to bed. She is perfect in every way.

We adopted Lenny in April 2018. Our house felt empty after the passing of our two dogs within months of each other. We missed Maple and Sammy (a Little Mutts dog rescue who spent 9 years with us) enormously and wanted a new pet with a different look and personality to brighten our lives. I truly believe that Lenny was sent to Calgary for that purpose. He has his own personality and is as dark as the others were pale. He started feeling at home very quickly. He is friendly with everyone, humans or animals, and rarely barks. His only pet peeves are the crows and magpies which he likes to terrorize. On the second picture, he is back from the groomer who used to be his foster mom. Her whole family is happy to see him back when grooming time comes as he is the most lovable rat terrier/poodle mix (according to his DNA test). We are so grateful to have Lenny as a member of our family and we believe he enjoys his forever home as well.

Thanks Little Mutts Dog Rescue for Lenny.

We are so happy with Joschi. He is playful, happy, loves his walks. He is a character, he is a great addition to our family and we are so lucky to have gotten him.

We picked up Kingsley at the airport as our third Foster. He cuddled up to us instantly and we had him between us sleeping the first night. Sweet and adorable, he fit right in with our two other dogs and made us a smile as he played and begged for belly rubs. He has also been easy to train as habits had all already been taught and only needed love and guidance to further his training. This we look forward too and seeing him running free across a field makes my heart glow.

After 3 months and 2 fosters adopted, we couldn't believe no one wanted this sweet boy. As we were falling in love with him and couldn't see losing him, we decided to welcome into our family. He continues to be a joy to have around and a warm body whose cuddles comfort at night.
Fostering is one of the most rewarding experiences we have ever had. Showing patience and love to these unwanted animals and taking them in to care for is a selfless act that warms the heart and provides hope to this cause. I encourage people to foster and adopt, and the kind Volunteers at Little Mutts made the experience even better.

Lulu/Blackie now "Jet"

Amy Gowertz - Tuesday, September 04, 2018

I adopted Lulu, now aptly named “Jet” for her coloring and speed, in February.  It was one of our coldest and snowiest days , at -30!  Jet took to the snow and cold like a trooper, considering she came from California.

Jet has been a blessing from day one, she has brought me so much joy.  Jet is a smart (I sometimes think she knows what I am saying), happy, healthy, well-behaved, playful, and energetic dog.  She loves to go on walks, which we do 3 times a day – rain, snow, or sun.  She rarely barks, she sleeps through the night on her bed, and has never destroyed a thing.

We are working on a few little issues like, meeting dogs, playing with big dogs, and pulling on the leash.  We’ll get there!

Thank You!  Michelle
