Happy Tails

Sassy is doing well in her new home, I would have to say that it is  like she has always been part of our family, she gets along so well with everyone and our other dog 'Buddy' is of course her best friend.    Some of her favourite things to do are snuggling and giving kisses, going for long walks and chasing Buddy around.

Thank you to everyone at Little Mutts Rescue for letting Sassy find us.

Mona Bruin aka Lily

Amy Gowertz - Wednesday, July 10, 2019
We had just recently lost one of our dogs, and felt a need to give back as it seemed so quiet. We decided to foster a tiny dog who went by the name of Lily. We instantly fell in love with her. She was so sweet and cuddly and instantly fit into our pack. She and our other Little Mutts rescue played and chased  each other after just a few days. Our older dog who turns 15 was also very curious of Lily.
We call ourselves epic foster fails as it took only a week to have her officially adopted. We changed her name to Mona Bruin. Mona because she reminds us of a friends grandma who is also tiny and doesn’t back down to anyone.  Bruin is her middle name as she is from Los Angeles and we named her after the UCLA Bruins.
Needless to say we are no longer fosters or else we would have more dogs then we could count.
Thank you Little Mutts for the work you do to bring so much love into people’s lives.

I changed Pluto/EJ/Elton John’s name to Edgrr.  😊 He learned his new name immediately.  He’s so smart.

He is doing just great.  He has a nice fur family of two rescue cats and a new big brother dog.

We go to the dog park every day.  He is pretty much the fastest dog there.

He’s full of mischief and has taught his big brother all the bratty things terriers like to do but is also very loving and super cuddly. 💖

Karl aka Malone

Karl (formerly Malone) is a blessing in my life.  He makes me laugh every day.  He is definitely the king of his domain here, keeps guard of the back yard and lets passers-by know that though he’s small in stature he has a big voice.  Initially reticent, he loves to cuddle and greets family members with boundless enthusiasm and screeches of excitement.  He loves to go for walks or to sit on a stool in the kitchen looking out the window.  He keeps me company in my office every day and has his own executive office chair to sleep on.

Sadly, I have recently found out that he has cancer (adenocarcinoma of the anal sac) and it has spread to his lymph nodes. A final ultra-sound test was done at VCA Care and the veterinarian agreed that the cancer has spread beyond the stage of being operable without causing incontinence, discomfort and expensive chemotherapy treatments which would only prolong his misery.  He is currently not in pain and is on a special veterinary-prescribed diet.  He’s happy and will live out the rest of his life without invasive measures which would only cause him distress.

As long as Karl is not in pain and the quality of his life with me remains superior he will live out his days in my home as a contented and much-loved pet.

We absolutely love our Annabelle. She is the sweetest dog and has adjusted so well! She has definitely melted many hearts in our family.  She sleeps in the strangest positions – loves being on my shoulders and her favourite is snuggling into a sweater with her face totally buried.  She is definitely a lap dog and loves being cuddled most of the time.

We have a daughter who has never been a fan of dogs in general but she came out to visit and after she went home, she told me she missed Annabelle!

She is from LA for sure – she is happiest when she is outside in the sun and if she can fall asleep on the deck – she is in her glory.  I just can not say enough what a difference this little girl has made in our lives!

Bam Bam

Amy Gowertz - Sunday, June 23, 2019
Bam Bam has been the perfect addition to our family. I don’t know how we got so lucky. He’s the sweetest, snuggliest guy ever. He has 5 dog cousins and plays with them all even though he’s the smallest of the bunch. His people family is even bigger and he’s loves everyone he meets. Not sure how he ended up in a shelter but we are thankful to whoever had him last as he is well trained and just amazing. Thanks to little mutts for bringing him into our lives.

Sierra and Lucy

Amy Gowertz - Sunday, June 23, 2019
Dear Little Mutts,
It will be a year in July  that we have had our two chihuahua rescues.
Sierra & Lucy have adapted wonderfully to us and there new climate lol
They were both amazing troopers going outside in our awful winter we had this year!
Lucy being the most reserved of the two is becoming more & more relaxed every single day.... meaning she doesn’t get as anxious when we pick her up to sit on couches with us(she has really short legs lol)& the biggest thing is she is finally starting to come down when my husband gets home to go out & not wait till I got home👍
It’s a joy to see these dogs enjoying life!

Rocky 2018

Amy Gowertz - Sunday, June 23, 2019
Rocky is doing amazing! He fit right into our home like he was always meant to be there. He has conquered his fear of walking up and down stairs with a little help of his new older brother.

We have learned that Rocky wants all the love and attention of those around him and is one of the most friendliest dogs I’ve ever met. He is always willing to be around kids, adults or other animals.

Thank you for allowing him to be a great addition to our family!

We kept his name ‘Benji’ because it really suits him!

Benji has come a long way in one year.  For the first few days we were afraid he would never want to leave his crate, and now he’s the boss!  He is definitely not at man’s dog, but he has warmed up to Arnold, my husband, now and snuggles up to him on the couch. But he is still wary of him as soon as he stands up.

He loved his walks at first and then, last September, I took him outside in the morning just when about six balloons were going over our house and the sound of the hot air being released really spooked him.  He has never wanted to walk around here since - except at night, funnily enough.  He would just shake like a leaf.  And then, yesterday (June 6) all of a sudden he decided it is safe to walk around here again.  I’ll remember to watch out for the balloons this September!

He loves playing fetch with toys so we think he must have been taught to do that at some point.  We are still trying to determine how good he is with other dogs.  We are not sure whether he wants to play or be combative, but we think it depends on the dog.  As far as people are concerned, he has never once tried to nip anyone, no matter how scared he might be.

He was estimated to be 3 years old when we got him, but we think he was still in the puppy stage.  He still loves to chew slippers and cushions, etc. but he’s getting a little better.  He is so much fun to have around though, not matter what he does.

The first picture is of him taking shelter under a stool when it is thundering, just after we got him.  The second one is very recent.
