Hi Dena "Romeo" and I are all tucked in the apartment condo on this freezing cold snowy day! My Mom who is 86 (who lives in a Retirement Village) five minutes away and I wanted to share his story so here we go.......I am sure that you will have to edit and select the best photos I am so happy with Romeo and Little Mutts I am sure you can feel my energy! Merry Christmas to all...
.....one night "destiny", living in a condo apartment and searching web sites to adopt/rescue an "under 30 lbs", small dog to share my life with began this search.....so many "large" dogs needed good homes - hardly any small.....I kept at it, nightly it was time....finally on kijiji a pop-up screen for "Little Mutts Rescue Calgary" well, a vision - an answer.....kept looking at the faces, filled in the adoption papers, I was so excited I couldn't sleep....a couple where adopted, I was interviewed by Becky, she kept me calm and assured me and laughed with me, kept encouraging me - everyone was so great....I believed, met one little fellow with Rita.....no not quite the match, oh my this was like Internet dating!!
Saw "Romeo's" shelter's name pictures, coming from Texas, (Gordie) his large brown eyes, I could feel it was him...met him a week later at his foster mom's Naomi, she opened the door and there he was tail spinning like a helicopter, looking up at me like "there you are!". Chatted we walked together with Naomi and her little dog, it was "him", please I wanted him, felt like he had been in my life before! I left to get in my car, he wanted to come with me not go back inside - "where where are you going?" Went around the corner in the car and burst into tears, Naomi said she knew I was the one for him, called my Mom, told her you won't believe this but I found another little dog...."believe".
.....July 3rd..."Waiting for Romeo" by Peachie my Mom 86 here for dinner and I am looking after two teacup poodles as well till the evening....We were seated at the dining room table with a clear view of the sidewalk up to the patio doors, so excited to see Romeo on a leash, there he was - his little feet flying with Jackie, door opened, he came right in under the table, I put my hand down in greeting and he licked my hand, "hello Grandma". I lost my heart that moment. Romeo greeted the poodles and said - "you" are just visiting. Made his way across the kitchen floor, laid down, content "at his forever home" just like that. We love him more each day and he brings such joy to Michele.
Ok, Romeo's turn.....oh really I am not that perfect, but I am a gentle mannered little soul, walk great on a leash, squeaky toys scare me, but I have so many toy balls to play with and I have to have one where ever I go. Love the car and going to work with Michele and seeing Seniors, spending the day there, and at Grandma's Retirement Centre. Baseball caps and sudden hand movements frighten me...the vet thought I was so handsome, the groomer, was nice and patient even though I wouldn't let her touch my toes (Michele is working on that!), I had some accidents on the floor! I don't take treats from strangers, got to go to Banff for a weekend and met another "Little Mutts" fellow! Snow!!!! No way am I wearing a coat, don't touch my paws and try to stuff them into a jacket, and Velcro from one of the jackets finished the coat discussion ouch! Okay Michele carried me today -24 w/c and we walked through the apartment garage and out each end. I let her share the queen size bed after I was invited up. I got to play "sleep-over" while Michele was away for a week, the lady was so great and her dogs were good buddies (Vet Assistant Kelsey) and got me on a better dog food too...sure did like those Caesar's though, maybe Santa? I already have a Christmas stocking. I don't bark, but wow the first week if Michele went out in the hallway and shut the door, I howled like a baby...think it took a whole weekend to assure me, so she could get to the mailbox.....she was so kind and patient.....I am her faithful friend, even lick her nose, she seems to get a kick out of my tail, so keep it spinning! Thank you "Little Mutts Rescue".
