On April 4 th , 2015, I met with foster mom Cathy and “Lucy”! I loved her even before I heard the stories of what she had been through in her short little life, and I brought her home that same day. I couldn’t imagine that anybody who had seen her wouldn’t have thought she was the perfect dog, but luckily for me, they had! Her new big brother (make that HUGE brother – Irish Wolfhound Darby) accepted her right away, but it was obvious she would have to learn to get out of the way of his big, clumsy feet, which she did, VERY quickly! I renamed her Lola, just because it seemed to fit her better, and she came running to that name by day two! I’ve had dogs who were motivated by food, dogs who were motivated by toys, but Lola is motivated by one thing only – love and attention! In fact, I’m still trying to teach her what toys are for! All the little things I quietly hoped for, I’ve gotten. I hoped for a dog that would cuddle with me on the bed – she does, right from the very first night! I hoped for a dog that would want to stay close to me – she does, right beside me (even in the bathroom!) I hoped for a dog that wouldn’t need TOO much training to come when I call her or stop barking if I ask her to – she does! She can’t get into the house fast enough when I call her! She had her first ever camping trip this month, and she was LITERALLY the pride of our camp site. We had four trailers and a total of nine dogs, and she behaved impeccably!! Although I held her in my lap almost the entire four days, when I did have to put her in the ex pen for a bit, she settled right in and was content! We even tried fireworks – I was hopeful she wouldn’t be terrified, but was prepared if she was – but two little shudders when they started, and then she literally looked up and watched them with me! In short, she is absolutely, completely and utterly PERFECT!!! My sincere thanks go out to Little Mutts Rescue and the marvelous people who take the time and make the effort to save and care for these wonderful dogs. If I could have 100 of them, I would, and if the powers that be would only see fit to let me win that lottery, I will have!! For now, I will settle for my Lola and the wonderful years we have ahead of us both! Hard to say who rescued who here!
