We have the pleasure of watching Oakley settle into his forever home for approximately 1 month now. He arrived just in time to experience the wonders of Christmas, cold Calgary winters and lots of Christmas turkey!!
Our journey to find a dog to join our home was a long one. After searching for nearly 1 year, Oakley’s big brown eyes instantly had me wanting to meet this handsome guy. I will admit I was a little sceptical about adopting a 9 year old dog. We had met with a couple other dogs to make sure that we found one that was good for our family and who as you know ‘just fit’. During our trial period we met another younger dog and were actually in the process of adopting him. I took my daughter and son out for lunch, and we were going to go back and actually pick up this other dog. I looked at Olivia and she looked quite upset, so I asked her what was wrong....she sighed. So I asked her again and I said “aren’t you happy we are getting a dog”? She didn’t answer me. So we discussed the other dog, and Oakley. Finally after talking to her about the differences of each dog, I finally said “what does your heart tell you”....she looked up at me and said “my heart says Oakley mommy”.....we got him 4 days later.
Oakley has fit right in. He likes to nap in his chair, nested in his GIANT blanket in the sun that shines in our sunroom in the early afternoon. Likes to go in the truck, sometimes tries to drive, but I told him his eyes aren’t what they used to be! He came with one little ball that he arrived in Calgary with, now he has many, many squeaky stuffed toys that he chases around the house. He is a VERY quick learner and loves to dance for goldfish crackers, plays dead and is working on shake a paw.
