Rocky ...quite a personable and adoring dog! Just that simple; we made a great choice in giving this little gem a forever home. One never knows when selecting a pet, especially when their history and people-trust are not known. But, when we first met this little guy at Peggy’s foster home, my wife knew he was one that we had to invest in. Going in to it, we knew he wasn’t fully house trained, even at his age of 6 years. But with patience and positive reinforcement, close monitoring and within a couple weeks we had an attentive dog who does his ‘business’ outside and has already learned a few tricks. He can’t replace the other beautiful Chihuahua’s we had, that passed-on due to old-age…I think they will forever bring a tear to our eyes when we think of them. All dogs are unique in personality, and Rocky has all the personality anyone could want….he is smart as a whip and extremely fast too based on coloring, floppy ears and agility, we think he is part terrier. This guy sure doesn’t miss much…and quick with his reactions…holy moly, he is likely lightening. Rocky has brought with him life, enthusiasm, entertainment, and devotion, as only a dog can. What a wonderful puppy he is – he travels in the car so well and while he doesn’t initially like to go for walks, he prances along so well when over the initial hesitation.
Rocky has obviously had previous household exposure….we got lucky selecting this little guy. Two of his traits are that he audibly thinks he should be fed people food from the super table and he knows that it is warm and soft under the bed quilt, a great place where he hides first thing in the morning and doesn’t stir for anything. On the people food thing, we are still working on training him that his dogfood is his and our food is ours. Sooo, habits have started; some he taught us and some we taught him. All in all, he is firmly entrenching himself in our home and our hearts…he has quickly become a thrill to have around, to meet us at the door after work, to play catch with his favorite toys, to race around on the lawn. On the latter, we were told he came to us from California and when the first bit of snow arrived here, he wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with it. Out for a pee in the morning,… until he hit the end of the sidewalk and s-n-o-w – a quick and hasty retreat when he touched the snow, as if to say that he and snow have an agreement to never mix. Is he ever in for a rude surprise when it gets cold this winter. We have already bought him his own small wardrobe to help him with his next surprise…-20c !
Overall, Rocky sure is a pleasant, intelligent and playful ‘keeper’ in our life. I encourage anyone giving thought to adding to your family with a forever home for a dog, to let a little warmth in to their home, if at all possible. We sure are thrilled. Attached are a few shots of this guy at play and learning how to beg for a treat from one of our others….he loves to jump, chase and tease….his toys are definitely his and he guards them diligently. What a treat he is to have around to guard our home.
Cheers
