On June 27th, I picked Maggie (the dog formerly known as Tootsie) up from the airport and brought her to her forever home. I can’t believe it will soon be 4 months since I got her! I was a little nervous about how my life would change when I first got her, but I quickly realized it was for the better. Over the past few months I’ve had a few personal problems and I am so grateful that Maggie was always there for me when I got home or whenever I needed her. It makes such a difference having a furry friend in your life.
Maggie started off her new life in Calgary very afraid of everything. She was an extremely submissive dog who wouldn’t eat, would cower when you came over to her and didn’t like when other people or dogs were around. She would even cut up her nose trying to escape her kennel during the day and once she was out she would have many accidents all over the house.
Maggie has blossomed into a happy and confident little dog! She is always at my feet wherever I go, just to help out or see what I am doing. She still gets quite upset when I leave, but couldn’t be happier to see that I return every time. I no longer kennel her and she couldn’t be happier. I was quite nervous to try this out, but she has been accident free for 3 months now! Maggie also gobbles up her food right away and has gained some healthy weight. Even her fur is coming in much thicker and much softer.
In the beginning when we went on walks, she wouldn’t want to go very far, and would stop dead in her tracks when another human, vehicle or dog came by. Now she is running around, wagging her tail and so happy to inspect other dogs that come her way. Her favorite things are: walks, belly rubs, cuddling on the couch, treats and rolling around in the grass. Some things that she dislikes: really big playful dogs, baths, haircuts and whenever I leave for work.
Thanks,
April
