Zia has been with us for 10 days now and every day she opens up and gets more confident in her surroundings. When I first met her at the Calgary airport she was timid and very afraid of fast movements and being picked up in general. I think now she realizes that when we go to pick her up it’s to cuddle her and she’s not as afraid anymore. She’s fitting in with the other dogs really well too. Dee (Chihuahua/Shi-Poo) will be turning 1 this month and Hector (Chihuahua rescued from Mexico) is now 2 years old so the three of them have lots of fun chasing each other (both indoors and outdoors), wrestling and playing tug-o-war. Zia also has a very quiet, cuddly side and if any of us is on the couch she usually wants to be touching us in some way, either on our lap or beside us. Both Zia and Hector sleep in our bed at night and it’s only a queen size…..so much for romance!
Our newly adopted Daughter, Phoebe, has also fallen in love with Zia. Technically Dee is her dog and he sleeps with her at night, however, Phoebe loves to cuddle with Zia. Overall I think the family has adjusted well, both humans and fur babies!
